Be the Change with Lilith
As a conscious, purpose-filled woman, you are no doubt grappling with how to show up in this chaotic age. It doesn’t matter what country you live in, how you describe your politics, or how you identify your spiritual lineage.
Human beings and all our relations on Earth are on the cusp of unimaginable change.
I too am grappling with how to rise above my anger and disgust at what I see playing out in society. When I’m mired in my feelings, worries, and triggers I am not in a resourceful space. I feel cut off from my libido, my creative power, my spiritual guidance.
As a Crone I feel the responsibility to DO SOMETHING!
I look to my indigenous neighbors for inspiration. This weekend, I tuned in to a conversation of wise humans gathered by Sherri Mitchell, the Penobscot author and activist.
Sherri talked about how many clairvoyants, wise elders, and artists throughout the ages have predicted this time in chilling detail. She offers this powerful reframe:
They did not predict this time. They CREATED it. We all co-created the current world by seeding our consciousness, thoughts, beliefs, and actions with the apocalyptic images.
It is our responsibility and accountability to consciously co-create the world we want to live in with our thought, word, and deed. Feed the world that we want with our attention and energy.
More importantly, it is our responsibility to become the person who can inhabit this new world.
Our responsibility as human beings is to BE WILLING TO BE TRANSFORMED. Be willing to be healed.
This becomes the practice. To shift our attention from the headlines that promote chaos, fear, anger, and hatred to vision and action toward the world we intend to create.
This is a world built on a deep, intimate connection with the land, with our relations of all species, and our relations with our fellow human beings. Sherri says: Let me show how much I can love you, be kind to you, respect you, and be in relationship with one another.
This is the energy that allows us to become the person who can inhabit the world we want.
We also take the long view of seven generations. I may not live to see this new world. You may not live to see it. We create it anyway, because it starts in us.
This is both collective and individual spiritual practice. It challenges me to be more accountable for what I think, how I speak, what stories I repeat, what I feed my mind.
Human beings like the dopamine hit of anger and drama. We see REAL harm perpetrated every day.
Sherri Mitchell has a formula for that: 10-10-80. 10% of our energy notices the harm, 10% works to avert and deflect the harm, and 80% visions and acts to create the world we want instead.
What spares this medicine from being a spiritual bypass is its insistence on responsibility and accountability.
How to transmute anger to creativity
1. Grow beyond dosing your consciousness with the dopamine of righteous rage.
2. Do the work visioning and creating and working toward solutions for humanity and caring for the earth – in community.
This is literally how to “be the change.”
The Lilith Journey
A challenge for many of us is extricating ourselves from the matrix of patriarchy that shapes us.
I chose Lilith to guide my croning because she is the forgotten goddess erased by Judeo-Christian patriarchy, the religious lineage that formed me.
Lilith can teach me to become accountable to the original power of creation within me.
She co-created the Garden at the beginning, and left the Garden rather than deny her divinity. I want to know who she is beyond the fragment of myth that filtered to us through the erasure.
She remembers what it means to be Feminine before patriarchy. Her memory is coded within us.
